What you wear can make a BIG difference!
I’m sure that when I’m talking with my clients and suggesting clothes that in the back of their mind they’re questioning me.
“It’s June, for goodness sake, WHY should I skip the polo shirt for a button down?” I can see in their eyes they think I’m off my rocker.
Why do I say long sleeves? Let’s say, for example, you have a family group portrait coming up and there will be ten of you.
Ten pairs of eyes. Great! Ten smiles. Beautiful! Twenty bare arms. Oh. Twenty bare legs. Oh my!
I’m not saying you can’t wear polos and shorts for your group portrait. In fact, if you’re doing a beach theme, it’s the perfect look.
The problem is that you wind up with a gaggle of arms and legs… twice as many arms and legs as smiles and pairs of eyes.
Wearing long sleeves and pants with medium to darker solid tones keeps the focus on what’s important: those smiling faces. Plus it’s more flattering.
A friend of mine has a great saying: “The longer the sleeve, the thinner the arm.”
That being said, it’s only my opinion. My job is to give suggestions before you make your investment so you know what to expect. It’s important to remember that the portraits will hang in your home, so take my suggestions and adapt to your family’s style.
In the end, the MOST important thing is this: Seize the moment. Have a portrait made this year when your family is together as they are now. Changes happen. Preserve the moment today.
