One of the perks of my job is to photograph kids and pets together.
When I get the chance I count my blessings, because I know that it’s a fleeting moment a child wants will want as an adult. I know from experience.
Some of my favorite childhood memories are quiet times outside with my dog, Sam. He was my closest companion—making me laugh while his little dachshund legs tried to keep up, running after me.
He was with us from my sixth birthday until age 22; the day he passed away was so sad for me. I tear up remembering what a great best friend he was to me.
It brings me joy knowing what a photograph of a child and his or her pet will mean many years from now.
There are so many great scenes worth capturing like watching the sunset together and enjoying the quiet time after playing.
These days our daughter has a best friend of her own—Chloe.
I watch them play together and my childhood comes rushing back; her laughter is mine and the dog’s antics are a tonic for our spirits. She has become in two short years the member of the family who is full of excitement no matter what.
